Calm and Connected: Navigating to Wellness Using the Polyvagal Ladder

October 27, 2021 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

In this session, we focus on what you are experiencing right now and connect you to concrete ways to understand and change how you experience stress. Using polyvagal theory and trauma-responsive practices, we explore how to engage in healthy stress management to support feeling balance and connection, rather than feeling like we need an escape hatch.

We will build understanding of the physiological mechanisms that influence our feeling safe and connected, being mobilized by stress, or beginning to lose energy due to a feeling trapped or overwhelmed. We will introduce an exercise to create a personalized map of strategies that help us maintain inner stability when we are balancing stress. We will have an opportunity to share examples with one another to promote our collective practice in navigating stress management.

Learning Objectives

  1. Use a trauma-informed framework for noticing and responding to how we react to stress.
  2. Gain strategies to support our capacity for maintaining a sense of safety and connection when we need it most.
  3. Use a tool to develop awareness and skills to promote our ability to stay balanced, connected, and compassionate (including to ourselves) when feeling overwhelmed or burned out.
