ANCHORAGE — Today, NEA-Alaska announced its sole endorsement of Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins (JKT) for Alaska Governor, recognizing him as the candidate best positioned to champion Alaska’s public schools, educators, students, and families.
NEA-Alaska represents more than 8,000 educators across Alaska who are committed to providing every student with a high-quality public education. Through its Political Action Committee on Education, NEA-Alaska PACE, educators evaluate candidates based on their commitment to public education and their willingness to work to address the challenges facing Alaska’s schools.
“Johnathan Kreiss-Tompkins is a homegrown Alaskan and a proud product of our public schools. His years of experience in the legislature, deep understanding of Alaska, and natural ability to work above party politics for the greatest good will make him an outstanding governor who can get Alaska back on track,” said NEA-Alaska President Laura Capelle.
NEA-Alaska’s endorsement comes as Alaska’s public schools continue to face significant challenges, including inadequate and unstable state funding, educator shortages, growing class sizes and caseloads, and the continued difficulty of recruiting and retaining qualified educators.
“The members of NEA-Alaska go to work every day to serve our kids and create strong communities. Over the past eight years, these professionals have borne the brunt of the Dunleavy Administration’s slow defunding of our public schools. It’s time to fight back on behalf of kids, parents, and educators,” said JKT.
This sole endorsement reflects NEA-Alaska’s commitment to electing leaders who will stand up for Alaska’s students, educators, and public schools and work collaboratively to ensure every community has the resources it needs to provide a quality public education.
