Student representation on local school boards provides much needed perspective from a cohort that so often have little power or say in policies that impact them directly.

According to the Association of Alaska School Boards, "When youth representation is intentional and supported, Alaskan boards can deeply benefit from youth member’s points of view, creative thinking, direct questions and open-mindedness. Fully engaged youth leaders are essential to building positive school climate, learning about youth concerns, and making good decisions as a school board."

If you are a student interesting in serving on your local school board, or an educator or mentor seeking to guide an interested young person in your life, the Association of Alaska School Boards has resources available to start you on your journey.
