Each year NEA-Alaska recognizes outstanding members and external groups with the following award categories.

Human Relations and Civil Rights Awards
Emily Ivanoff Ticasuk Brown Award for Human Rights To recognize distinguished Alaskan ethnic minorities who have made outstanding contributions to education in Alaska. October 15 Plaque/$500 honorarium/Invite to DA
Vide Bartlett Award for Women’s Rights To recognize NEA-Alaska members who have demonstrated leadership and creativity in advancing the rights of women in Alaska. October 15 Plaque/$500 honorarium/Invite to DA
Willard Bowman Memorial Award for Human Rights To recognize NEA-Alaska members who have demonstrated leadership in advancing the cause of human rights. October 15 Plaque/$500 honorarium/Invite to DA
Association Leadership Awards
Bettye Fahrenkamp Political Action Award – for NEA-Alaska member To recognize an NEA-Alaska member who has made outstanding contributions in the areas of political action and legislative action which benefits the organization. October 15 Plaque/$500 honorarium/Invite to DA
MacManus/Belts Award for Organizing and Advocacy To recognize a member of NEA-Alaska in the fields of Employee Rights and/or Association Advocacy. October 15 Plaque/$500 honorarium/Invite to DA
Alan Dill Award for Strong Local Organizing To recognize a local leader whose active and passionate advocacy and understanding of the elements of an effective organization have resulted in a strong or strengthened local association. October 15 Plaque/$500 honorarium/Invite to DA
New Association Leader Award To recognize a new leader whose contributions to the local and/or state association are exemplary. October 15 Plaque/$500 honorarium/Invite to DA
Susan Stitham Leading the Profession Award To recognize an Association leader who has made exemplary contributions to the teaching profession as well as to the local, state and National Association. October 15 Plaque/$500 honorarium/invite to DA
Outstanding Local Association Award To recognize locals which have made significant achievements in membership, negotiations, grievances, minority membership and involvement, contributions to PACE or the Defense Fund, human rights, or innovative practices. October 15 Certificate/announced at DA
Education Support Professional (ESP) of the Year Award
Education Support Professional (ESP) of the Year Award To recognize excellence in the educational support profession in Alaska. June 1 Plaque/$2500 honorarium/invite to DA
Teacher of the Year Award
Teacher of the Year Award To recognize excellence in the teaching profession in Alaska. (In conjunction with the DEED procedure for selection). NEA-Alaska will work with DEED in developing procedures and selection of the Alaska Teacher of the Year Plaque/$2500 honorarium/Invite to DA
External Awards
Outstanding District Practice Award To recognize school districts for innovative practices which significantly contribute to the quality of education provided in the District. October 15 Plaque/Invite to DA
School Bell Award To recognize the media for significant contributions to the promotion of school and community welfare. October 15 Plaque/Invite to DA
Champions of Children Award To recognize Alaska business and business leaders for significant contributions to schools and public education. October 15 Plaque/Invite to DA
Bettye Fahrenkamp Outstanding Legislator Award To recognize an Alaska legislator who has shown outstanding support for public education and NEA-Alaska’s Legislative agenda over a number of Legislative sessions. October 15 Plaque/Invite to DA
Exemplary Student Recognition Award To celebrate Alaska’s student leadership, initiative, character and extraordinary performance. October 15 Plaque/Invite to DA
Renowned Alaskan Award To recognize Alaskans who have made significant contributions in public education, business, government, civil rights, or labor relations. October 15 Plaque/Invite to DA
