Bargaining is one of the most powerful tools we have to enhance educational excellence and ensure educational employees have a voice in their professional lives. This training is offered to help you and your local improve pay, benefits, and working conditions for our members.

This training will include:

  • Bargaining and the Law
  • Preparing to Bargain
  • Power and Organizing
  • At the Table: Advocacy Skills

NEA-Alaska will cover the costs for up to four members from each local to attend this training. Most bargaining teams are appointed by the local president, but your constitution and bylaws may have guidance for assembling a team. Keep in mind the different grade levels, departments, job titles, communities, etc. your association represents as you look for bargaining team members. 

TRAINING INFORMATION

The NEA-Alaska Bargaining Training will begin on Friday, October 3rd at 4:00 p.m., ending on Saturday, October 4th at 4 p.m. at the NEA-Alaska Office in Anchorage (4100 Spenard Road). NEA-Alaska will provide Friday dinner, Saturday’s breakfast and lunch. Per diem will be provided for dinner on Saturday evening. 

REGISTRATION: 
To register for the training and request overnight accommodations, please fill out the registration form below. There is a maximum capacity of 40 attendees for this training. The deadline for registration is Sunday, September 14 at 11:59 PM.

LODGING:
You will receive hotel confirmation based on the information provided during registration. If you have questions, please contact Susie Smythe at Susie[email protected] .

You will present your own credit card upon check-in for incidentals. The hotel will be “direct-billed” to NEA-Alaska.

NEA-Alaska will reimburse up to 2 nights lodging (Friday & Saturday), in accordance with NEA-Alaska’s travel policy encouraging double occupancy.

AIRLINE TRAVEL:
NEA-Alaska will reimburse round-trip airfare to Anchorage to attend the Bargaining Training. Remember to book your flights well enough in advance to qualify for the lower-cost fares. You must provide a copy of your itinerary. It needs to include how the ticket was paid. All boarding passes and the itinerary will be attached to your reimbursement form.

Please include cab receipts (from/to the airport) and if you share a cab, indicate their name(s) on the reimbursement form.

REIMBURSEMENT:
Receipts must be attached to your completed travel reimbursement form and submitted to our Juneau office via USPS: (Attn: Lynn Metcalfe 201 Main St #300 Juneau, AK 99801) OR sending the digital form to and digital receipts to: [email protected]. The reimbursement form will be provided at the training.

**Participants are asked to bring the following items to maximize the productivity of the training: 

  • A laptop computer or tablet with full keyboard functionality.  
  • A copy of your local Association’s current collective bargaining agreement (We will have electronic copies available, not paper copies).

If no, your team will be put on a wait list until all teams currently bargaining have the opportunity to register, please do not purchase plane tickets until you are confirmed.
Do you need hotel reservations?
NEA-Alaska will make hotel reservations for me.
I will be responsible for my own hotel reservations.
NEA-Alaska will pay lodging expenses in accordance with NEA-Alaska’s travel policy encouraging double occupancy. If there is someone you want to room with, please email [email protected] with their name to be placed together. Please mark single occupancy if you do NOT want a roommate.
Please indicate your arrival date, in Anchorage, for hotel reservations. The training will begin on 10/3/2025 at 4:00pm.
